What is a builders warehouse?

Author: admin  |  Category: I say

Builders warehouse is the name of a company but it is also two English words strung together. A Builder is a person that creates buildings. There are various facets to the word builder. A builder is a multiskilled construction worker. A bricklayer or brickie would for instance be the person you see on site placing bricks together using mortar to build a wall. A plasterer will cover the bricks with a mortar mix and smooth the mortar for nice flat walls. Decorative plastering is also done. A Builder would be the fella overseeing both of these people or even a person capable of both these jobs.

The word builder is also used in other contexts, like for instance a web designer may call his CMS Content builder, because the act of creating something is known as building. examples are building a website, team building etc.

A warehouse is a stonking great shed. A place with four walls and a roof, generally used to store stuff in. so a shed full of furniture may be referred to as the furniture warehouse.. I think I have just used someones company name… haven’t I? A shed full of  Building supplies could be referred to as the builders warehouse or building warehouse.  There it is again, I just used someones company name in an English sentence.

Why am I writing this article I hear you asking. Well it goes like this I used two English words in sequence on a clients web site and they have been sent a lawyers letter telling them to take it down. My question here is in what world do two English words in sequence become trademarked? When can you no longer say, XYZ hardware has the biggest builders warehouse in Hazyview? or Lowveld hardwares building warehouse in Nelspruit stocks over 20 000 items

I am no legal expert but I think that is the equivalent of trying to stop me from saying Nelspruit Fasteners supplier XYZ Building Supplies carry stock of most pozidrive screws, bolts and nuts and even washers. PS Nelspruit Fasteners is also a company name. Question for all you genius type people out there. Can I suddenly lay claim to two English words in a sequence because I named my company Builders Warehouse?
