Sparrow fart at Thornybush Game Lodge
It seems it’s just me and the birds that are awake. The electricity is off so I am working on the battery. There is no signal so this will be put up later. I think there may be enough signal on the runway, I’ll check later. I arrived at about 3:30 yesterday.
I was met by Donna with a glass of iced tea which was very welcome. The trip from Nelspruit was uneventful except that it seems that all bushbuck ridge residents are don’t know what the pedal on on the right is for. I have never been behind so many people that don’t accelaerate away from robots and travel at about 35 on the main road. I did not notice this phenomenon on previous visits to the area so I am guessing the credit crunch has an effect.
From Nelspruit I travelled to Hazyview and then through Bushbuck Ridge and Acornhoek, About 2 kn’s before Klaserie I turned left following the Phalaborwa signs. There is no indication that the route to Hoedspruit is on that road. I am guessing that the Hoedspruit trsidents don’t want tourists to miss the mecca of Klaserie. Soon after joining the Hoedspruit road you will find the signage pointing to Thornybush Game Lodge, Phelwana and a number of other wildlife lodges.
At the gate they took down my registration number and asked for my destination. I hit the dirt road which is not in good repair, Maya was not convinced that she enjoyed the road, but I have travelled a lot worse in the Nelspruit area. Upon reaching Thornybush game lodge I was shown to my accommodation. The room is better than just impressive, The bed is built for trysts and sharing. It is like a football field and the tented mosquito net canopy is reminiscent of a Turkish harem.
The Thorny Bush Country Lodge has all the accustomed luxuries including an outdoor shower, You can commune with nati=ure while getting a good soaping. There is a safe, a fridge, a kettle, aircon and a hair dryer in the room.
Last night we had supper in the Boma, With a roaring fire, the three course meal was served, The starters was baby narrow and mince soup. This is a recipe that I need to get my hands on. Today I shall see if Kerry will oblidge. The main course was Roast runp, braaied chops and boerie, complete with pap and sheba. We finished with a chocolate torte. All of this accompanied with a choice of wine, beer and other grog.
I met Maggie and the girls for the shoot at dinner, They seem to be a really nice crowd. The models are going to make the photographer look good. I seem to be really lucky that way. I get all the shoots where the camera doesn’t need to lie and not much post processing is needed. The monkeys are waking, I hear them squealing and bickering out in the bush. Last night I heard a leopard coughing, and the monkeys were not all comfortable, The cries and screams told me of fear.
Thats enough from me. Today we start the shoot, The ladies will be ready by about 8 or so, so I best get up and do some of my own prepping.
