The art of making money on the web

Are the days of making money on the web history? Is the aftermath of the dot com bust that nobody can do it anymore? If these so called facts are real why are new internet millionaires being created daily?

The facts are that any business has the potential to succeed. There are a few criteria to making money on the web that are exactly the same as making money from a so called real business. The first thing you need is commitment. The second you need is a plan, the third is some research, The fourth is action.

The reason 80% of businesses in the real world fail in two years is to do with that planning and research. Its all good and well starting a business that someone else is making money from. But the research would tell you that putting another take away in a small village may not be the best plan because of something called saturation. Because there are three successful take aways on the block does not mean a fourth will also be successful. Research is the key to success.

Prince Harry loses a leg

Prince Harry joined the army as a career.

Prince Harry wants to be taken seriously as a soldier, which is why he made it clear after he’d finished his officer training at Sandhurst that he would leave the army if he was left behind when his regiment was sent to a war zone.

This tale of Prince Harry however is not about our favourite British Royal, It is a tale of a young man interested in the phsycology of the headline and the sale.  He was doing some research one day and excitedly shouted, “Eureka I have it”, the chicken leg in his hand flying off to be snapped up by the  German shepherd watching intently.  There you have it Prince Harry lost a leg.

By now you have realised that I have brought you here with false intentions. I have included you in an experiment. I am researching the headline and its effect on the visits to a website.  I am also researching  the efficacy of the headline to make people pay attention.

The very fact that you are reading this means that the headline grabbed your attention.  What I want to know is what effect did the headline have on you when you first saw it, Why did you click through on it.  Please leave a comment and tell me what you thought of this dastardly tactic.

Oh yes feel free to read more of my blogs if you are at all interested in gaining more traffic.

How I sold 300 generators in 48 hours

OK if I had been selling generators for any length of time this may or may not have been a feat, but here is the thing, Prior to the 48 hours I had never sold a generator, well not in about 15 years anyway. way back in my youth I worked for Turner Morris, Manufacturers of Industrial plant.

But earlier this year we were having rolling blackouts, called loadshedding by Eskom, In fact I think my other site still ranks well for eskom cartoon. Just checked number 14. But back to how I sold 300 generators in 24 hours. I started with a website / blog that was already liked by Google. I wrote an article and made the generators available. Sadly I got screwed. The supplier was less than honest and I am still trying to resolve one of the issues that arose from this.

Lesson 1. Research, Check out your prospective “partners” or associates. Its not enough to have a great offering. You need to be able to deliver. I should have known something was wrong when this partner suddenly was able to source an extra 100 generators when there was a dearth of stock anywhere else. Anyway in 48 hours I sold 300 generators, earned 140 k, a week later I owed 40 k and no generators were ever delivered.

Lesson 2. Know your market, another bit of research that should have been done by me before I wrote that first page was actually knowing the market and the products value. If I had maybe I would have known the deal was just too good to be true.

Lesson 3. The Internet can exceed your expectations by way more than you expect, I had requests for another 200 generators before I pulled the site. The next 30 days we searched for stock, quoted for many generators, sold three big machines making a substantial amount of money. But once again I had no idea what I was selling, The suppliers were too busy to train me. I passed on the leads to another and have seen no earnings since.

Lesson 4. Keep a control of what you are passing on, Check to see if the suppliers are honest.
