Just been reading African ABC’s People die from exposure and I was under the impression that it was only photographers who get asked to supply photos for free and think of the exposure. I see musicians also get offered the same deal.
Eve’s Bridal wear were one of the suppliers of wedding gowns for the Wedding Collection spring selection. Guy McLaren was chosen to do be the fashion photographer to bring you the images of the Eve’s Bridal gowns. I have attached a few of the gowns for your viewing pleasure. Read more…
Photographers that devalue themselves are of no use to their clients, or themselves, I wrote about what photography costs the other day and this morning I read an article by John Harrington that horrifies me. Istock photo sold a cover photo to the TIME for $ 30.00.
I get asked regularly by people wanting to know what camera I would recommend. I am not going to recommend anything specific, Instead I am going to ask a few questions that you as the prospective purchaser should be asking yourself. I see the local Game store sells people DSLR cameras when they ask about shooting in the Kruger National Park and I am horrified.
Some more photos of sunsets, Most are from my patio, The 6th I wasn’t home on time so shot the same scene from a different vantage point.
Mayday 2009
I went out in a Bell 206B3 the other afternoon to take some photo’s for CFA Charters’ brochures and their stand at INDABA. The ride was rather interesting. We went and photographed all the falls on the panorama route. I am not putting all the pics of the falls here. I am putting up the photographs I took of some other interesting stuff.
I was checking out Shauns post 25 sunsets and figured I could get close to 25 sunset photos. In my digging I found 20. There are one or two Sunsets and sunrises I remember taking that I need to find still. I may add them later. I may add them as another post later. And you can find a link to Shauns post at the bottom of the page.
Every One of these images was captured by me in the last 3 years.
I went out today and shot some snakes. In the action I got a Mozambican spitting cobra in full spit. I know that this particular shot is sought after by snake photographers and consider myself very lucky to have gotten this shot.
Tomorrow I will add a gallery of snakes to Mpumalanga Photography
Today I want to tell you what the rule of thirds is. I want to talk about its origins and its value to photographers. Artists through the years going back into antiquity found that balanced artworks had no real zing. They realised that having the focal point off center was the best way to make paintings pop.
In essence making use of this rule ensures that you don’t have paintings split in half by the focal point or horizons and the like. They allow the painting to appear more natural and lifelike, giving focus as such.
The facts are that if the subject of the painting or photograph is centered in the frame, you focus on the center of the image and ignore the rest of the image. Lets study this and see it on a couple of old masterpieces. Note how your focus is drawn to the baby’s head and then you move through the painting and see the rest of it. Also note the positioning of the mother’s face. This allows you to be drawn into the painting.
The next image we are going to look at is the one of the ladies and the dog. Note how the klatch is happening on the one third line and the dogs head is on the one intersection. The dogs face is an immediate draw card to focus on then your eyes start taking in the ladies, thereafter you will start taking cognisance of the scenery. If artists were doing this 500 years ago who are we to argue.
Next I am going to show you a couple of photos I took to show you how this effect improves your photography. The first picture is the boy and the ball. The image draws you to the boy but the rest of the image does not attract any attention whatsoever. We are not looking to see where the ball is heading, the background has no interest. All in all the photograph does not create interest in the game or the situation.
Another football shot which is only marginally better because you are drawn to the interaction between the boy and the ball before you move into the image to follow the game.
Do you need a photographer, Check out the Mpumalanga Photographer
feel free to tell me if they do not meet your criteria for good photography. On holiday a few months ago I did the whole river tour on the St Lucia wetlands. Here are some of my favorite memories. As a photographer I capture my memories like this. We were checking out the crocs up close when the egret flew in and landed right in front of me.
We visited with the hippo in the river listening to the skinner as the let the world know what was happening in their world. Just two random shots of the beach activities follow this.
