Websites are a waste of money and time.

Author: admin  |  Category: Internet

Most of them are anyway. Facts are that 90% of websites are a cost to the businesses and not an asset. If your website is invisible it is dead, costing you money and is in fact even worse than that non performing salesman you hired a few years ago.

Most people go online to get information, but what do you see at most websites – A portfolio… See the problem? Most advertising fails because the customers want information and help. The majority of communication fails to do just that. My question here is why should the customer care that you have a mission, a vision and a Black empowerment policy. Do these things deferentiate you from your competition?

Your website should be about the client not about me me me. This is the main reason that websites fail to give results. The client wants you to communicate with them, supply them with information and help. Do you think that a Guest Lodge website with pictures of beds is any different to any other guest lodge? Are you really selling bums in beds? OR are you selling something else?

You need to be talking about the client not about YOU. If you are talking about YOURSELF, Nobody cares, seriously no one gives a crap. If the website does not answer the question, “Whats in it for me?” for the client, it’s definitely not worth the time of the client.

A good website does..
Give information and build credibility
Builds the brand and allows you to earn off the brand
Builds customer loyalty
It allows communication, clients should be able to use it as a suggestion box.
It solves problems
It is a salesman and should do the job.

Show me the money!!! Which of you would spend R 10 000 on advertising and be happy with no results. I am guessing that spending the money with no result is only in the realms of fantasy and the ultra rich. Having a website may be fun but the costs are visible. If they are not paying for themselves websites are waste of time and money.

How I sold 300 generators in 48 hours

Author: admin  |  Category: Internet

OK if I had been selling generators for any length of time this may or may not have been a feat, but here is the thing, Prior to the 48 hours I had never sold a generator, well not in about 15 years anyway. way back in my youth I worked for Turner Morris, Manufacturers of Industrial plant.

But earlier this year we were having rolling blackouts, called loadshedding by Eskom, In fact I think my other site still ranks well for eskom cartoon. Just checked number 14. But back to how I sold 300 generators in 24 hours. I started with a website / blog that was already liked by Google. I wrote an article and made the generators available. Sadly I got screwed. The supplier was less than honest and I am still trying to resolve one of the issues that arose from this.

Lesson 1. Research, Check out your prospective “partners” or associates. Its not enough to have a great offering. You need to be able to deliver. I should have known something was wrong when this partner suddenly was able to source an extra 100 generators when there was a dearth of stock anywhere else. Anyway in 48 hours I sold 300 generators, earned 140 k, a week later I owed 40 k and no generators were ever delivered.

Lesson 2. Know your market, another bit of research that should have been done by me before I wrote that first page was actually knowing the market and the products value. If I had maybe I would have known the deal was just too good to be true.

Lesson 3. The Internet can exceed your expectations by way more than you expect, I had requests for another 200 generators before I pulled the site. The next 30 days we searched for stock, quoted for many generators, sold three big machines making a substantial amount of money. But once again I had no idea what I was selling, The suppliers were too busy to train me. I passed on the leads to another and have seen no earnings since.

Lesson 4. Keep a control of what you are passing on, Check to see if the suppliers are honest.
