I spent some time looking at South African hotel web design and hospitality web sites. In order to understand why so few hoteliers are getting results from their hospitality web sites, I looked for as many as I could find. I started with the search term “South African Hotel” and on the first 3 pages (top 30 entries) their is one hospitality web site that belongs to a hotel group.
In the current economic environment hoteliers are having to rethink their marketing strategies. Return on Investment (ROI) should be formost in the mind of a hotelier considering internet marketing and hotel web design. The economic downturn has affected where people are spending their money. Hotel web design as a subset of tourism web design is not really much different from any other type of design. Facts are that hotel web design can be broken down into two types of websites. Those that work and those that don’t. Putting aside that hotel web design can include online booking and local information areas to attract business, the average hotel web site is boring and has no reason for any surfer to visit more than once.
