The Private property sale is a lot less difficult than you may believe. Most potential Private Property sale homeowners are normally afraid because of the complexity of the process. The Estate Agents have spent years teaching Private Property owners that the process is really complicated.

I know as I had three days of training and most Agents I met had not had even that before they were out on the street canvassing for properties to sell.

If these people that have no qualifications or experience can be out there marketing your property, What prevents you the homeowner from Doing it yourself. In fact I find that the commission percentage of 7.5% plus VAT as recommended by the Institute of Realtors in South Africa to be a very steep price to pay for the service you actually get.

As a homeowner you have the right to market your own property, but did you know it is against the law for any unqualified person to charge you for their services as an Estate Agent. If your home has been sold and the Estate Agent that negotiated with you is not qualified you can under the law refuse to pay commissions unless a qualified Estate Agent was present at the negotiations and signed the contracts.
