Photography: It’s not the camera, it’s the eye that sees the picture

It’s not the camera, no really it’s not. I have seen awesome pictures taken with a cellphone camera. I keep seeing the NIKON/ CANON argument and I can safely say that the cameras all seem to be pretty good, although the Canon ones seem to be just a little better. I am kidding, the pictures taken with Nikons are indistinguishable from those taken with Canons at the same spec and using equivalent glass.

But there are those of you that want to take better pictures and don’t want to break the bank buying equipment. Here is a secret, Unless you want to print poster sized photos most point and shoot cameras are adequate for the job. There are a few exceptions.

You will not do as well at wildlife photography with a 3x optical zoom camera as with an 18x optical zoom camera. Facts are that my daughter with her Fuji F5700 with the 12x optical zoom has taken better pictures than I did in the same place with my 40D and the big glass.  The difference is that I have a bigger image.

Most photographers do not need a DSLR, a prosumer camera is as good in many respects and better in some. I drop my camera and the bill could be higher than replacing a prosumer camera in toto.  Over the coming weeks I am going to give you tips on improving your photography.

We will discuss the rules, exposure, work flow and more. If you want to upgrade from being a happy snapper to taking awesome pictures just follow along here.
