1. You are unable to see the goods you are bidding on at Bid or Buy. You are reliant on the honesty of the seller.
2. If you are unhappy with the service of the supplier and you negatively rate them, they will revenge rate you. Bid or Buy management have no problem with this concept
3. The ratings system is poor and is no indication of the real quality of the seller. Many people give positive ratings else they get tit for tat poor ratings. Bid or Buy management benefit from this bad rating system
4. If you complain vociferously about the poor systems at Bid or Buy they will just Ban you. If you are not in the forums you cannot scare off other potential buyers.
5. Its an auction where you can be bidding on an item made to look good in theory but a poor quality item may be despatched. In the time in the forums and on Bid or Buy I saw many complaints poorly handled.
6. If you ask questions about how a system works, you get no answers from Bid or Buy.
7. Many of the sellers are unethical. Seriously they resort to blackmail in order to get positive ratings.
If you want to attend an online auction like Bid or Buy you are taking huge risks. Real life auctions where you can touch and feel the goods are a risk, but buying an article from some faceless individual with no real come back. Is that not a real risk?
I paid for a membership at Bid or Buy and enjoyed it for two weeks after being banned because I was less than complimentary about their systems. I am going to warn everybody about the dangers of bidding on items at Bid or Buy.

I too had shocking service from a seller by the name of Beddingtons. When I complained, they (BoB) promised to resolve the matter within 12 hours. I am still waiting to speak to a person from BoB. In the meantime the seller has logged up many more bad ratings from buyers and I was listed as a negative buyer. I feel that the general public should be made aware of the pitfalls of buying through them. Unfortunately my very first buy turned sour and put me off Bid or Buy.

Also had a bad experience. Thought it was fairly safe and they would have some system in place to protect buyers. You need bank details etc. to become a seller but I don’t think they ever verify these details. Use gumtree.co.za. You can also get conned there, but at least you can meet the person and see the item. You don’t have to go to an address you can meet the person at a public place etc.

bid or buy are crap! I’ve been a registered seller for almost 2 years. They blacklisted me this morning with NO reason. So i called to speak to them and was referred to the head of security. he then proceeded to tell me and i quote ‘you didnt bother to read the terms and conditions pages, so we blacklisted you’ i mean WTF. They suck and i never will support them again.

Mmm, my story is also about BOB !
Bought a ps3 online … and then the goods never existed. BOB didn’t really help or do anything to resolve the issue. The seller was smiling, because he stole from more than 7 + people. Well, I went to court, won the case, the sheriff is now on the seller’s case, (6 + months later), and still not resolved !
Mmm, if you buy expensive things … STAY AWAY FROM BOB ! Trust me …

Also a victim of this tit for tat negative rating. Purchased a faulty product and when I gave a negative rating I simply got one in return. You get a negative rating for giving a negative rating WTF??

2009-16-02 i purchased a mobile tv phone which was delivered two weeks later. The phone did not have a network signal and could not use it with all network sytems(south africa).I complained and was told to send back the phone which i did in march until, to-date i have not got it back and my seller Richard does not respond to my emails like he used to do before. i dont encourage anyone to trust BOB and i am so disappointed.

Hi, we all have the same problem with BOB. I have been buying and selling for many years on eBay without any problems, but since in this country eBay does not work too well in S.A so I tryed BOB. Despite having had a flawless feedback they blacklisted me because one buyer complained he did not received his parcel. I contacted BOB and told them here is the tracking N°, the parcel is waiting at the post office, the buyer just need to go and collect. But they could not be bothered and I have been blacklisted since.

BidorBuy has no control on security and verification of registered users, and you will read that more than a Million rand has been lost over the past couple of years.
And if you want to complain, Mr Morne Booysen will be all too happy to block your account. Please don’t deal with this site, until BidorBuy takes some responsibilities and puts in effective control measures.

I too had bad experience w. BOB. I had payed for something,that never arrived. I complained at bidorby. They started asking questions about the deal, than more questions. After some time I received a questions from them, I had already answered. That is where I gave up. Although bidorbuy offers a refund for non deliverys, they did not offer and when asked, they did not bother to answer. It was all about R 300,00.I am finished with them!!

I agree with alot of the sentiments above, their system is highly flawed, for buyers and sellers.
I used to like them, but since selling, it’s been a confusing and scary ride, they seem to NOT tell you things you should now.

BOB’S MORNE BOOYSEN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HES DOING. THEY SAY HE PROTECT SOUTH AFRICAN’S AT NIGHT (MAYBE SOME WANNABE TOP COP)AND WORKS AT BOB DURING THE DAY… MAYBE HE NEEDES A WAKE-UP CALL AND SOME REST. spend more time with your 2 kids morne!! MY ACCOUNT WAS BLACK LISTED IN ONE WEEK AND WHEN I PHONED HIM HE SAID MY ACCOUNT WAS LINKED TO ANOTHER ACCOUNT???? THIS WAS MY FIRST ACCOUNT ON BOB!!!! I FAXED HIM MY ID ETC BUT STILL NO HELP. I RECIEVED 2 PAYMENTS FROM CLIENTS AND COULD NOT GET THEIR POSTAL DETAILS AS I COULD NOT GET INTO MY ACCOUNT, SO THEY NOW LOOSE THEIR MONEY SO HE CREATES A DANGER TO BUYERS ASS WELL!!
