The lessons of QVC vs Donn Edwards

Author: admin  |  Category: I say

I wrote about this recently You can read “Is calling people and telling them they have won a prize a scam?” to see what I had to say about the QVC scam. Today I don’t want to talk about the facts or even the insinuations I want to talk about customer service. You can read about the dangers of the silent customer here.

MWEB and tech support

I yesterday had to deal with MWEB on behalf of a client. A simple request was sent in, We need the A records for the domain changed as the website will be hosted by me. This client has fixed IP servers for their mail. In order not to screw up the system we opted to “redirect” the webserver from MWEB to us.

World Aids day and David Patient

Author: admin  |  Category: I say

One of my favourite people is David Patient who is a long term AIDS survivor. He has lived with AIDS for 25 years. He calls it living with Bob.

David and Neil live on the fairy farm near Nelspruit. I met them almost 5 years ago, I will not pretend that I am best friends with them but I do pop in for a cuppa every now and again. Neil makes the most divine sandwiches.

Now the thing is that I have not met anyone as positive as David ever. He is both HIV + and mentally positive. David is awesome and when he gives me advice I listen. I know he is going to be in town over the season and I am definitely going to visit, You see I need some picking up and a visit at the fairy farm is always a tonic.

David and Neil, Guys I love you.

Is calling people and telling them they have won a prize a scam?

Author: admin  |  Category: I say

I am a little annoyed at Quality Vacation Club for suing Donn Edwards club as I too have been a victim of the you have won a prize and you need to attend a prize giving ceremony Scam. Yes It is a scam in my opinion. A few years ago I fell for it as I was insufficiently informed and gullible enough to believe I had won a prize despite not having entered a competition.

In my case I had won an all expenses holiday in some exotic location. I was told to bring my wife, and in my glee I even took a friend and his wife because it was a big deal. Imagine my surprise when I arrived and got told it was a draw and that I had not actually won the grand prize, even more surprising is that I had to sit through a Sales presentation for timeshare before the draw.

Further to this I had a seriously high pressure salesman that did not understand the words, “No, Fuck off, I don’t want timeshare”. At the end was the draw, My uninvited friends won a weekend for two at some obscure location that would cost as much to get to as a weekend somewhere closer would. I was also lucky enough to win a weekend at you guessed it, the same location.

My friend who was a little more flush than me took his missus away for a dirty weekend and was hounded by salesman for the whole weekend. Now if they actually gave me a prize, why do I still think its a scam. The thing is that the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth as the prize advertised by the telesales bint was not won by anyone at the meeting.

Not one of the people I spoke to had entered a competition, The whole deal was a subterfuge to get me to listen to a sales pitch. In my book this qualifies as an underhanded technique to prey upon those that have not yet had dealings with companies like this.

Here are some words that I have learned.

Telesales: You have won a car.

Me Really, when and where did I enter this alledged competition?

Telesales: Umm err, I don’t have those details.

Me: So what are you selling. Is it perchance timeshare?

Telesales: No not at all.

Me: Heres the thing, tell your boss and all his evil minions to fuck their mummies, I don’t do timeshare prizes because its a fucking scam you lying little fuckhead.

I find it odd that I seem to get less and less telesales calls from these immoral, unethical, prize giving lying buttwipes.

PS: Go ahead and sue. This piece is an opinion piece and has been written as warning to consumers. It is in my opinion that unethical business practices need lots of exposure. I will join Edwards in defending the rights of consumers to reveal these practices.
